Portland’s Moss, Oxford Hills’ Graffam win Class AA North top honors

Portland High School senior Terion Moss and Oxford Hills of South Paris coach Scott Graffam have earned the top individual honors in Class AA boys basketball as selected by league coaches.

Moss, a 5-foot-11 guard, led the two-time defending Class AA state champions back to the top of the final AA North Heal point standings with a 17-1 record this year.

Graffam and Oxford Hills overcame the transfer of 2017 Bangor Daily News All-Maine forward Matt Fleming to Bangor over the summer to go 12-6 and finish third in the final Class AA North standings. The Vikings won their last seven regular-season games.

Fleming, a 6-foot-5 junior, joined Moss atop the All-Class AA North first team after averaging 23.8 points and 13.2 rebounds per game in leading Bangor to a 9-9 record. Fleming also shot 82 percent from the free-throw line.

Fleming set a school and individual single-game scoring record with 45 points during a Jan. 15 win at Windham, and needed just eight points to reach 1,000 for his career entering the Rams’ Class AA North quarterfinal at Windham on Tuesday night.

He also was named to the Class AA North all-defensive team.

Other first-team choices are Griffin Foley of Portland, Wol Maiwen of Edward Little of Auburn, Nick Curtis and Mike Gilman of Windham and Ben Onek of Deering of Portland.

Bangor junior guard Damien Vance was among the second-team All-Class AA North honorees after averaging 16.7 points per game and shooting 86 percent from the free-throw line this winter.

Vance is joined on the second team by Emmanuel Yugi of Portland, Tobias Ephron of Cheverus of Portland, Darby Shea of Edward Little and Chris St. Pierre of Oxford Hills.

Named to the all-defensive team with Fleming are Ephron, Maiwen, Pedro Fonseca of Portland and Janek Luksza of Oxford Hills.

Bangor sophomore Henry Westrich tops the Class AA North all-rookie team. He is joined by Nick Galli of Cheverus, Austin Brown of Edward Little, Cam Brown of Windham and Darryl Germaine of Deering.

Earning honorable mention status are Fonseca, Simon Chadbourne and Trey Ballew of Portland, Matt Duchaine, Owen Burke and Will Shibles of Cheverus, Ibn Khalid of Edward Little, Cory Hutchison of Windham and Spencer Strong of Oxford Hills.
